Mindful Eating Exercise (Made Easy)

Mindful eating is such a great tool when you struggle with emotional eating and binge eating in particular. In this post, I wanna break down a super quick and easy mindful eating exercise that you can use to help you derail a binge. I also created a video on this that you can view here:

Here is the gist of my mindful eating exercise:

Stop. Breathe. Move.

When we’re connected into our bodies and fully present, it’s impossible to binge eat. Taking a moment to just stop, take a few deep breaths, and move your body to get your energy circulating will literally take you 30 seconds and can entirely shift your state.

Why do you binge in the first place? Because you’re checked out, numbing out, distracted, or looking to “feel good” fast. But when you just stop what you’re doing, connect back into your body by being intentional with your breath, you will feel that instant shift that you’re looking for, and eating isn’t necessary.

It’s a mental and emotional issue.

Emotional eating is called that for a reason – it’s a mental, emotional issue, so you need to have a mental, emotional solution. That’s why fad diets, which rely on restrictive meal plans and crazy workout routines, do not work in the long term. Because your struggle with food and body goes sooo much deeper than the external stuff.

The truth is that all of your behaviors are driven by your beliefs. Your beliefs then create your feelings. You don’t just do things for the sake of it. You do them because you are feeling a certain way.

This is why learning how to shift your beliefs and energetics is so freakin’ important. It is literally changing how you feel, and if you feel differently–better–you won’t turn to food for comfort.  When you are in an elevated state, and your vibration is high, you are going to make better food decisions. So take responsibility for your vibration and your beliefs.

Allow yourself to feel everything. If there’s a bottom line to everything I teach, it’s that you need to feel in order to heal. You’ve heard me say this a million times, because it’s so true. Feel everything – the pain, the stress, the overwhelm. It all gets to be there. Don’t wrong yourself for it, don’t think it shouldn’t be there, just accept it.

So what’s the best way to get into the habit of mindful eating?

Presence.

When you’re present, you automatically mindfully eat, simple as that. Use my stop, breathe, move method to derail a binge, and then from there, be incredibly present while you are eating. How much more can you feel into those moments? All of this starts with the mental, emotional aspects of your body.
